Osimhen, Nwabali condemn ‘inhumane’ treatment of Super Eagles in Libya

Victor Osimhen and Stanley Nwabali, Nigerian football stars, have expressed strong disappointment at the treatment of the Super Eagles at Al Abraq International Airport in Libya.

Osimhen expressed his frustration with the unprofessional handling of the national team, describing the situation as "inhumane" in a post on Monday.

"I am disappointed by the unfair treatment my teammates and coaches experienced at the Libyan airport last night. Such actions contradict the spirit of sportsmanship. I fully support my team, and I am confident they will remain resilient despite these challenges," Osimhen stated.

He called on the Confederation of African Football and other football organizations to act swiftly.

"I urge CAF and other football bodies to intervene as my teammates and officials are still stuck at the airport in Libya. This is unacceptable and inhumane. We stand united, stronger than ever."

Nwabali, echoing Osimhen's concerns, took to social media to express his outrage at the team's ordeal during their journey. On his X handle, he disclosed that the Super Eagles had been stranded for more than 14 hours at a deserted airport, with no access to food, water, or internet.

He described the experience as "completely absurd" and also called for immediate CAF intervention.

"Spent over 14 hours at a deserted Libyan airport. No food, no water, no internet access – this is completely absurd! #CAF_Online, please take necessary action," Nwabali tweeted.

Victor Boniface also expressed his frustration on social media, writing, "Have been at the airport for almost 13 hours, no food, no Wi-Fi, nowhere to sleep. Africa, we can do better."

According to The NIGERIANWATCH, the Nigerian delegation was on their way to Benghazi for a crucial qualifier when their chartered flight was diverted mid-flight to Al Abraq, a small airport usually used for hajj operations.

The team was left stranded at the airport for 12 hours without assistance from the Libyan Football Federation, which did not provide transportation.

Despite the ongoing situation, CAF has not yet addressed the issue.
