INEC declares NNPP’s Abba Yusuf Kano gov election winner

Yusuf Abba Kabir of the New Nigeria Peoples Party was declared the winner of Saturday's governorship election in the state by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The declaration was made early Monday morning, amid rising tensions in the state.

According to the results declared by Kano State Returning Officer, Professor Ahmed Ibrahim, the NNPP candidate received 1,019,602 votes, defeating his closest rival, Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress, who received 890,705 votes.

The results, as announced by the Returning Officer, are as follows:

There are 5,921,370 registered voters in total.

The total number of registered voters is 2,032,955.

The total number of valid votes cast was 1,977,872.

27,092 votes were rejected in total.

Total number of votes cast: 2,004,964.

Meanwhile, in order to prevent a breakdown in law and order, the Kano State government has declared a dawn-to-dusk curfew in the state.
