The Nigerian Embassy in Doha has advised Nigerians traveling to Qatar for the World Cup to follow the host country’s rules.
The Mission issued the advisory on Thursday, just days before the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup on Sunday.
It also warned Nigerians not to fall victim to visa fraud, pointing out that the special World Cup visa known as the ‘Hayya card and entry permit’ could not be converted to a work visa or permit.
“As soccer-loving fans eagerly await the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the Embassy of Nigeria in Doha, Qatar, warmly welcomes fans from Nigeria who will be traveling for the tournament,” the statement said.
“The Embassy wishes to strongly advise that Nigerian fans traveling for the soccer fiesta should endeavor to obey and respect the laws of the host country while in Qatar and ensure that they comply with all relevant guidelines/requirements for visiting fans before embarking on any trip,” said the Embassy.
“Additionally, the Embassy wishes to state unequivocally that the special world cup visa known as the Hayya card and entry permit cannot and will not be changed or transferred to a work visa or permit.” Nigerians should not fall victim to unscrupulous elements spreading fake news in this regard in order to defraud innocent Nigerians.
“Finally, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria wishes all visiting fans the best of luck at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.”
