Orban eyes Premier League move
Nigerian forward Gift Orban is hoping to play in the English Premier League after scoring nine goals in eight games for KAA Gent in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League since making his debut on February 11.
In Gent's 6-2 win over Zulte Waregem in the Belgium Pro League match at the Jan Breydel Stadion on Sunday, the 20-year-old scored four goals, including a stunning free kick.
The Nigerian starlet, who joined the Belgian league from Norwegian club Stabaek in January, has scored seven goals in five league games and has made headlines for his outstanding performances in Belgium's top flight.
The sensational Nigerian striker is the first KAA Gent player to score four goals in a Jupiler Pro League game this century, according to Opta Stats.
Since his debut for Gent in February, no player in Europe's Top 10 leagues has scored more goals than Gift Orban (nine). Speaking after Sunday's game against Zulte Waregem, the Nigerian expressed joy at leading his team to victory, but hopes to play in the English Premier League in the future.
"Left or right, I don't care; the victory is critical," Orban said to Gent's website.
"My level has to be even higher if I ever want to play in the Premier League. "There is still much work to be done."
The former Stabaek striker isn't distracted by his goal totals and is focused on scoring more.
"Don't look there. I compete in matches and score goals. You never know in football."
Following his arrival from Norwegian club Stabaek in the January transfer window, nigerianwatch Sports was the first to report the youngster's sensational form in the Belgian topflight league.
The 20-year-old was named Gantoise Player of the Month in February, and one of his goals against Westerlo was named Goal of the Month.
