NBA: Lebron James Achieves Milestone, Surpasses 39,000 Points
Lebron James made NBA history on Tuesday by becoming the first player to surpass the 39,000-point mark. The Los Angeles Lakers secured a victory against the Utah Jazz, propelling them into the knockout stage of the league’s new in-season tournament.
The 38-year-old, needing just five points to achieve this milestone, secured it with a three-pointer in the first quarter of the Lakers' 131-99 win. Having surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar last season as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, James acknowledged the crowd's applause as his latest scoring feat was announced.
Reflecting on his achievement, James stated, “I haven’t really had an opportunity to wrap my head around what it means.”
“There have been numerous outstanding players in this league throughout history, including many prolific scorers. Being the first to achieve something is always quite special. It's a remarkable moment, for sure.”
James' milestone set the stage for a festive atmosphere at the Crypto.com Arena, where the Lakers secured a comprehensive wire-to-wire victory, advancing to the quarter-finals of the in-season tournament.
James concluded the game with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting, while Anthony Davis led the Lakers' scoring with an impressive performance, contributing 26 points, 16 rebounds, and four assists.
In another match, Kevin Durant achieved a significant scoring milestone, rising to the 11th position on the NBA’s all-time scoring list during Phoenix’s commanding 120-107 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. Durant only required 14 points to surpass Elvin Hayes on the scoring charts, a feat he accomplished in a high-scoring first quarter. Durant ended the game as the top scorer for Phoenix with 31 points, bringing his career total to 27,331 points.
