Lookman seeks end to six-match drought

Nigeria international Ademola Lookman will look to end his Serie A goal drought when Atalanta hosts Empoli in a Serie A match at the Gewiss Stadium on Friday (today),.

Lookman has failed to score in his last six games for the Italian club and will be hoping to do so again.

The 25-year-old Nigeria striker began the season strongly and has been impressive for Gian Piero Gasperini's side, scoring 12 goals and assisting five times in 25 league matches this season.

In Atalanta's 2-0 loss to Serie A leaders Napoli last weekend, the former Charlton Athletic star came on for Rafael Toloi in the 89th minute but failed to score.

The Super Eagles striker has five goals and three assists in Serie A matches this season and is currently ranked third in the Serie A top scorer's race, trailing Nigeria international Victor Osimhen (19 goals in 22 games) and Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez, who has 14 goals in 26 games.

He last scored in Atalanta's 2-0 win over Sampdoria in January and has been looking for his first league goal ever since.

The Nerazzurri have lost five of their last seven games and have gone four and a half hours without scoring, the club's longest scoring drought in Serie A in five years - La Dea last went four games without scoring in 2014.

The Bergamo side started the season with a 10-match unbeaten streak, rising as high as second in October 2022 before crashing out of the World Cup with four defeats in five games.

In three of their last four home games against Empoli, Atalanta have failed to score.

Now, the former Leicester City man will look to end his goal drought and return La Dea to winning ways.

Atalanta are sixth in the Serie A standings with 42 points from 26 games.
