Iwobi sidelined for weeks due to hamstring injury

Nigerian footballer Alex Iwobi has been declared unfit for Everton's Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Goodison Park on Saturday, due to a hamstring injury.

Iwobi sustained the hamstring injury during Everton's 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa in their recent Premier League match at Villa Park on Sunday. He was subsequently substituted during the second half. Everton's manager, Sean Dyche, acknowledged the likelihood of Iwobi's absence for a certain duration based on the severity of the tear.

Dyche officially confirmed in his pre-match press conference on Thursday that the Super Eagles winger will be sidelined from competitive football for several weeks due to this issue.

"Alex Iwobi will be unavailable for 'a few weeks' due to a hamstring injury," stated the Toffees manager, expressing limited confidence in Iwobi's immediate return.

This unfortunate circumstance implies that Iwobi might miss Nigeria's final 2024 African Cup of Nations qualification match against Sao Tome and Principe, scheduled for September 10, 2023, in Uyo.

Since his transfer from Arsenal in the summer of 2019 for a £30 million fee, Iwobi has amassed a total of 140 appearances for Everton. During this time, he has scored nine goals and contributed 16 assists for the Merseyside club in various competitions.
