Inter Milan stalemate widens gap behind leaders Napoli

Inter Milan were held to a goalless draw by struggling Sampdoria on Monday, allowing Napoli to pull 15 points clear at the top of Serie A.

Simone Inzaghi's side already had little chance of reclaiming the league title lost to local rivals AC Milan last season, and the gap between them and Napoli widened after an underwhelming performance.

Napoli beat Cremonese 3-0 on Sunday and look increasingly likely to win their first league title since 1990.

In the race for next season's Champions League, Inter are three points ahead of Atalanta, Roma, and Milan.

Lazio are in sixth place after losing to Atalanta in Rome on Saturday night.

The draw on Monday was a good result for troubled Samp, but a point does little for a team firmly entrenched in the relegation zone.

Dejan Stankovic's side has 11 points from 22 games and is eight points behind Spezia, who are just outside the relegation zone and drew at Empoli on Saturday.
