France name Renard’s successor amid Eagles link

Herve Renard's successor as head coach of the France women's team has been announced, implying that the 55-year-old could now take his fifth job in Africa, having been linked with the Super Eagles position.

On Friday, the French Football Federation announced that Renard's successor would be Laurent Bonadei, whom he knows well as his assistant since 2019. Bonadei worked alongside Renard during his four-year stint as head coach of the Saudi men's team before following him to France last year. Bonadei has signed a contract that will run until the end of the 2027 Women's World Cup, with the option of being extended.

"I'd like to thank the Federation for its confidence in me. "I'm proud and honored," Bonadei stated. "Leading the national team is a tremendous responsibility that I take seriously and with dedication. I'm following in the footsteps of Herve Renard, with whom I've collaborated closely for the past 17 months on the French women's team.

Rumours suggest that the Frenchman is on his way back to Africa for his next job, having previously led Zambia, Angola, the Ivory Coast, and Morocco.

According to reports, he is a strong contender for the vacant Nigeria post, which former Sweden manager Janne Andersson has also confirmed he is interested in.

In January, the Ivory Coast attempted to temporarily hire Renard for the Africa Cup of Nations, but the FFF declined. The following month, reports surfaced that Egypt was interested in hiring the 55-year-old, but Hossam Hassan eventually took the job.
