Eagles stars hail Osimhen after latest award

On Monday, Odion Ighalo and Alex Iwobi joined a long list of Nigerian and other football stars and fans in congratulating Napoli striker Victor Osimhen on winning the 2022 Best Foreign Athlete in Italy award.

Since the beginning of last year, the Super Eagles star has been spectacular in front of goal for the Parthenopeans.

Osimhen had 18 goals and five assists in 32 games in 2021/22, including 14 in 27 league games.

Last season, he scored seven of his 14 league goals in the second half.

Former Manchester United and Al Hilal striker Odion Ighalo congratulated the former Lille player on social media.

"Congratulations bro," Ighalo said on Instagram.

"Big," Everton and Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi added.

"Well deserved bro," added Nigerian winger Peter Olayinka.

Patrick Kluivert, a former Dutch international and Barcelona legend, tweeted, "Well deserved brother congrats."

The 24-year-old striker, who beat hundreds of other sporting personalities in Italy to win the prestigious award, was overcome with emotion and took to Instagram to express his gratitude.

"It's an incredible feeling to be named Italy's Best Foreign Athlete in 2022. Thank you for your help. "God is the greatest," wrote Osimhen.

The Nigeria international has been outstanding for Naples this season, leading the Serie A top scorers chart with 19 goals in 21 appearances, five goals ahead of Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.

Osimhen's incredible form has also influenced Napoli, who are on track to win their first Serie A title in over 30 years.

On Saturday, Osimhen and Napoli will face Atalanta at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
