ECL:Unai Emery clarifies reasons behind Aston's 4-2 loss to Olympiakos

Aston Villa manager, Unai Emery, has explained why his team lost 4-2 to Olympiakos in the first leg of their Europa Conference League (ECL) semi-final on Thursday.

Ayoub El Kaabi's hat-trick secured Olympiakos's surprising victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park.

Ollie Watkins and Moussa Diaby managed to score for Emery's side during the match.

Speaking after the game, Emery stated that Aston Villa's performance against Olympiakos was subpar and that the team lacked control.

"We are frustrated and disappointed, we didn't play well," Emery said
"This is my initial summary. We had no control over the game. Our play was too rushed.

"In many situations, we needed to slow down to stop them from taking advantageous positions. We needed more than just one, two, or three passes to get into their box. They were playing wide open, which wasn't part of our plan.

"Congratulations to Olympiakos; they deserved to win the first leg. We'll try to bounce back, but they're now the favorites. When we play the return leg, we'll aim to show a different performance."

The return leg is scheduled for next week.
