Cole Palmer signs new nine-year contract at Chelsea
Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has signed a new two-year contract extension that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2033, according to journalist David Ornstein. The 22-year-old, who signed for Chelsea from Manchester City for £40 million last summer, has quickly established himself as one of the Premier League's best players.
"Cole Palmer commits to Chelsea for the future by signing a two-year contract extension. The 22-year-old England attacker has already signed until 2031, with terms extended until June 2033. "Rewards brilliant debut season after joining from Manchester City," Ornstein wrote on X on Tuesday.
Palmer's debut season in west London was spectacular, with 25 goals and 15 assists across all competitions.
His impressive form earned him a place in the England squad for Euro 2024, where he had a significant impact. Palmer set up Ollie Watkins' winner in the semi-final and scored the equaliser in the final against Spain, but England ultimately lost.
Despite the scrutiny Chelsea has received in recent years for their transfer strategy since Clearlake Capital purchased the club from Roman Abramovich, Palmer has proven to be a remarkable success story.
Pedro Neto, a Portuguese winger, joined Chelsea from Wolves.
His new contract comes with new terms, rewarding his outstanding performances in his debut season.
Palmer played in the final preseason game against Inter Milan under new manager Enzo Maresca. He is also expected to play when Chelsea face his former club, Manchester City, in the season opener on Sunday.
Meanwhile, as Chelsea secures Palmer's future, another England international, Conor Gallagher, faces uncertainty.
Gallagher had agreed to join Atletico Madrid for £33.7 million and had even undergone a medical with the La Liga club.
However, complications with a deal involving Samu Omorodion heading in the opposite direction have jeopardised the transfer.
Chelsea has requested that Gallagher return to London while the situation is resolved, with Tottenham reportedly still interested in the 24-year-old midfielder.
Atletico and Chelsea are currently in talks to finalise the deal.
