City join Lookman chase

Manchester City have entered the race for Super Eagles and Atlanta forward Ademola Lookman, following reports that the Nigerian has prioritised a move to another club this summer.

The former Everton player's future took a quick turn after French club Paris Saint-Germain enquired about his availability on Sunday.

Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini expected the 26-year-old to maintain his impressive form this season. However, his hopes have been dashed after Lookman, according to Football Italia, declined to be called up for the 2024/25 Serie A opener against Lecce on Monday.

Following the decision, Liverpool and Arsenal attempted to sign the forward at the last minute.

Meanwhile, TBR Football, a UK outlet, reports that Manchester City is one of the clubs interested in the talented forward before the transfer window closes.

Lookman left Everton for German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig in 2019 for a fee of £23 million.

However, recent reports suggest that he may be returning to England, with Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City all vying for his signature.

"TBR Football understands that Liverpool are now considering an audacious move to sign Ademola Lookman, who could strengthen Slot's options up top," according to the blog.

"All of Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City have been informed of Lookman's situation in Italy this summer."

Atalanta may consider selling one of their prized assets if the right offer comes in, with the club eyeing a fee of around €60 million for Lookman this summer, a player they'd be reluctant to lose in the same month as Teun Koopmeiners, another Liverpool target.

Lookman has been in excellent form since joining Atlanta, scoring 32 goals and assisting 18 times in 79 competitive appearances.

He made history by becoming the sixth player to score a hat-trick in a European final, a feat previously accomplished by Jupp Heynckes of Borussia Monchengladbach in the 1975 Uefa Cup. Lookman scored all three goals in the Italians' victory over Bayer Leverkusen in Dublin.
