Caicedo begs Brighton to complete Arsenal move

Moises Caicedo has pleaded with Brighton to accept a club-record fee for the midfielder, who is being pursued by Arsenal.

The Premier League champion reportedly had a £60 million ($74 million) bid for the Ecuadorian international rejected.

"I am proud to be able to bring in a record transfer fee for Brighton, which will allow them to reinvest and help the club continue to be successful," Caicedo said in a tweet on Friday.

"The fans have taken me into their hearts, and they will always be in mine, so I hope they can understand why I want to take advantage of this fantastic opportunity."

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi wants to keep the 21-year-old at the club at least until the end of the season.

"He's a nice guy. He's only thinking about Brighton. "I hope he can stay with us until the end of the season because it's the best solution for him and for us," De Zerbi told reporters on Friday.

"I spoke with him on Wednesday and told him my thoughts. I believe that changing during a season is always difficult. It's critical for us that he stays with us for another four months."

During the current January transfer window, Brighton have already sold Belgium forward Leandro Trossard to Arsenal for £27 million.

Caicedo is under contract with Brighton until 2025 and has been linked with a reunion with former coach Graham Potter at Chelsea.

"He's at ease. He's a nice guy. "I talked to him like a father, not like a coach," De Zerbi added.

"I understand when a player has the opportunity to switch teams and join a large organization.

"I see what you're saying. My job is to advise him on his playing style, but also on his career and life."

On Sunday, Brighton will host Liverpool in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
