Buhari charges Flying Eagles to win U20 AFCON
The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd. ), has charged the Flying Eagles to defy all odds and win the CAF U-20 AFCON, which is currently taking place in Egypt.
Nigeria will face The Gambia in the competition's semifinals on Monday (today), with a ticket to the FIFA U-20 World Cup finals already secured.
Sports Minister Sunday Dare, who arrived in Cairo on Sunday alongside former Super Eagles captain and Buhari aide Daniel Amokachi, delivered Buhari's message to the team, encouraging the Flying Eagles to aim for the ultimate prize.
"Mr President, the entire country of Nigeria is proud of what you have already accomplished. That is the main reason Mr. President has directed me to come here to see you. The goal was to win a World Cup ticket, which you accomplished.
"Go for the grand prize now. You can replicate your performance at the WAFU B competition. "You can smell the trophy now, so take it slowly and work your way back to becoming African champions again," Dare said.
