Aston Villa sign Amadou Onana in £50m deal from Everton

Aston Villa has completed the high-profile transfer of Belgian midfielder Amadou Onana from Everton, as reported by renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano and officially announced by the club.

Romano stated on Monday via X, "Official, confirmed." Aston Villa have signed Everton's Amadou Onana as a new midfielder. Deal signed for £50 million fee with add-ons and a sell-on clause, with Onana signing a long-term contract."

The 22-year-old joins Villa for £50 million, with additional performance-related add-ons and a sell-on clause incorporated in the contract. Onana has signed a long-term contract with the club, committing to his future there.

Aston Villa's official statement emphasised their joy at the deal, writing, "Aston Villa is delighted to announce the signing of Amadou Onana from Everton."

The club emphasised Onana's strengths, characterising him as a deep-lying midfielder who can break up play and regain possession. They also mentioned his recent international experience, including his participation in the UEFA Euro 2024 with Belgium.

Onana began his professional career with Hamburger SV in Germany, followed by a stint at LOSC Lille in France's Ligue 1. He joined Everton in the summer of 2022 and had a huge impact, appearing in almost 70 games and scoring three goals in his final season.

According to the release, the 22-year-old began his professional football career with Hamburger SV in Germany before spending a year with LOSC Lille in Ligue 1.
