Arsenal make Osimhen contact

Arsenal are apparently in contact with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen as the Premier League giants look for a prolific frontman this summer, according to Nigerianwatch.

The Nigeria international has been in sensational form since joining the Italian side from Lille in 2020, scoring 76 goals in all competitions.

His goal-scoring abilities have not gone unnoticed, with numerous Premier League heavyweights keeping an eye on the 25-year-old striker, who has also sparked interest from Real Madrid and French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

Despite having discussed a transfer, Mikel Arteta's side is not thought to be leading the fight for his signing. That comes after Gianluca Di Marzio informed bettingexpert.com (via The Mirror) that no solid negotiations had occurred as of yet.

Osimhen is allegedly one of Paris Saint-Germain's top targets this summer, as the club looks to fill the vacuum left by Kylian Mbappe's exit to Real Madrid.

The Ligue 1 giants may be the only European club capable of tempting him away from Napoli, despite they are unwilling to match his £112 million release clause.

Despite extensive links with the player in recent years, Chelsea appears to be out of the running for Osimhen, having shown minimal interest recently. Enzo Maresca is said to prefer Atletico Madrid's Samu Omorodion, although Alvaro Morata's move to AC Milan has complicated the scenario.

Arsenal's pursuit of Osimhen may accelerate following comments made by Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho, who compared the Napoli striker to Chelsea icon Didier Drogba.

"He's on the same level as Drogba, but Didier did not dive. If Victor changes, that's okay. "I'd buy him if I was at a wealthy club," Mourinho stated.

With Chelsea stepping back and Manchester United signing Dutch prodigy Joshua Zirkzee for £36.5 million, the Gunners have an opportunity to pursue Osimhen.

If Arsenal fails to sign Osimhen, Sporting CP's Viktor Gyokeres and Newcastle United's Alexander Isak are considered viable alternatives.

However, both players have high price tags, with Gyokeres having an £84 million release clause and Isak rated at £100 million.
