PDP Is Disappointment in Edo State Governor Obaseki's Rift with Deputy Philip Shaibu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has voiced its disappointment regarding the ongoing conflict between Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu. The rift between Obaseki and Shaibu has persisted for an extended period, causing concern within the party.

The discord began when Shaibu announced his intention to run for governor in 2024 but failed to secure Obaseki's endorsement for his candidacy. Subsequently, Shaibu took legal action by approaching a Federal High Court in Abuja to prevent his impeachment by Obaseki. However, he later withdrew the case following the intervention of stakeholders.

Shortly after, the deputy governor's media team was disbanded, and his office was relocated from the Government House in Benin, the state capital.

In response to these developments, Chief Dan Orbih, the PDP National Vice Chairman (South) and former chairman of the party in Edo, issued a statement in Abuja on Tuesday. Orbih urged both Obaseki and Shaibu to cease their public disputes, which risk tarnishing the PDP's image in the state, and instead, find a peaceful resolution to their differences.

He expressed surprise at the public circulation of official government letters that should have remained confidential and called for a return to a more amicable atmosphere. Orbih stressed that the ongoing discord could negatively impact the party's prospects in the upcoming gubernatorial election.

Orbih concluded by emphasizing the importance of preserving the PDP's strong brand in Edo State, built over the years through the dedication of party members and leaders, and urged both parties to resolve their disputes amicably for the benefit of good governance and the state's progress.
