APC in Oyo State Changes Timetable for Local Government Election Primaries

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has revealed a revised plan for its primary elections before the upcoming local government election in the state.

According to a statement provided to reporters on Wednesday night, the APC Publicity Secretary for the state, Olawale Sadare, explained that the primary, initially set for Thursday, has been rescheduled to take place on both Friday (August 25) and Monday (August 28).

This adjustment was prompted by the considerable number of individuals expressing interest in participating in the primary.

“The schedule of the party primary will now be split into two and we have picked this Friday to conduct the exercise in all the Wards and LGAs in both Oyo Central and Oyo North Senatorial districts, while the turn of the 99 Wards and nine local government councils in Oyo South will be Monday next week.

“Reports submitted by the screening committees established that we have competent aspirants in all the 351 Wards and 33 LGAs; this indicates that APC remains the most popular party in the State,” the statement reads.

The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) had fixed April next year for the local government election.

The APC, however, stressed that the slight adjustment in the schedule of its primary for all chairmanship and councilorship aspirants became paramount as it seeks to claim the positions in the state.
