Tinubu suspends REA boss, directors over alleged N1.2bn fraud
Tinubu has placed an indefinite suspension on the Managing Director/CEO of the Rural Electrification Agency, Ahmad Salihijo, and three executive directors. This decision results from fresh revelations emerging during a comprehensive investigation into the agency's financial activities, as disclosed in a statement by Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity. The suspended executives include Olaniyi Netufo (Executive Director, Corporate Services), Barka Sajou (Executive Director, Technical Services), and Sa’adatu Balgore (Executive Director, Rural Electrification Fund).
Tinubu has further directed an extensive probe into the officials' conduct involving a fraudulent mis-expenditure exceeding N1.2bn over the past two years, with some funds already recovered by anti-graft agencies, according to Ngelale. Consequently, the President has appointed a new acting management team for the Rural Electrification Agency, comprising Abba Aliyu as Managing Director/CEO, Ayoade Gboyega as Executive Director, Corporate Services, Umar Umar as Executive Director, Technical Services, Doris Uboh as Executive Director, Rural Electrification Fund, and Olufemi Akinyelure as Head of Project Management Unit, Nigeria Electrification Project.
The President emphasizes his commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance among all appointees in his administration. He reaffirms his dedication to prioritizing the aspirations of Nigerians for effective service delivery over the individual interests of those entrusted with essential responsibilities for the Nigerian people, as stated in the announcement.
