Nigeria to Host Visit by World Bank President Ajay Banga
With the aim of further delving into the possibilities of digitization and enhancing international engagement and missions, Mr. Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank, is scheduled for a three-day sojourn in Nigeria starting from August 3, 2023.
This visit also forms a crucial component of a worldwide tour designed to chart a fresh course for the venerable 78-year-old institution.
Throughout his stay in Nigeria, Banga's primary emphasis will be on fostering employment prospects for both young individuals and women, tackling energy requirements and sustainable energy sources, and investigating the scope for digitization.
Particularly noteworthy is his scheduled visit to a mini-grid power facility funded by the World Bank, which supplies solar energy to a local community. Additionally, he will tour a prosperous enterprise owned by a woman, which has effectively created more than 1,500 service-oriented positions, contributing to the professional growth of young Nigerians.
Moreover, he is scheduled to hold discussions with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, along with delegates from the private sector and civil society.
This visit follows a recent two-day halt in Ethiopia. Accompanying Banga during the African segment of his tour will be his wife, Ritu Banga. The tour has previously encompassed visits to Peru, Jamaica, and India.
