National Commissioner acknowledges Nigeria as a leader in Data Protection Compliance

Dr. Vincent Olatunji, the National Commissioner of the Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB), announced that Nigeria has been recognized as a leader in Data Protection Compliance. This recognition was further reinforced by his appointment to the Forbes Technology Council 2023, an exclusive community for top CIOs, CTOs, and Technology Executives. 

Dr. Olatunji expressed his excitement and commitment to upholding the agency's standards and vision, aiming for Nigeria to become the foremost leader in this field. The founder of Forbes Councils, Scott Gerber, welcomed Dr. 

Olatunji and emphasized the mission of the Council to bring together accomplished leaders across industries, fostering professional growth and impactful contributions to the business world.

Dr. Olatunji began his tenure at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in 2002, progressing through various departments to ultimately attain the position of director in 2014. In 2016, he assumed the role of Acting Director General. In February 2022, he was appointed as the pioneering National Commissioner of the NDPB (National Data Protection Board), following his tenure as the Director of eGovernment Development and Regulations at NITDA. In this capacity, he successfully led a dedicated team in implementing numerous initiatives crucial to Nigeria's digital transformation.

Throughout his career, Dr. Olatunji has actively participated in numerous Capacity Building programs, honing his expertise in various fields such as Public Sector Management, Project Planning and Management, Digital Transformation, and Data Protection, among others. He is esteemed as a member of several expert committees and has effectively represented Nigeria in both local and international forums.

His exemplary contributions have been recognized with various awards from esteemed public and private sector organizations. Notable among these accolades is the GNC Digital Hall of Fame Award of Lifetime Recognition, Excellence Achievement, and Contributions to Emerging Technology for Development Initiatives in Africa, received in 2023. Additionally, in February 2023, he was honored by IT Edge News Africa, recognizing him as one of the top 50 Digital Economy Enablers in Nigeria. In April 2018, the Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria listed him among the 100 Leading Telecom and ICT Personalities in the country. Dr. Olatunji's outstanding commitment to the University of Lagos Alumni Association garnered him the Award of Outstanding Commitment in July 2017, while the Ekiti State University Alumni Association presented him with the Award of Eminent Personality on June 22nd, 2018. Furthermore, in recognition of his achievements, Ekiti State University bestowed upon him an honorary Doctorate of Public Administration (HC) on June 23rd, 2018.
