A forthcoming policy aims to tackle challenges in the maritime sector

The Federal Government is set to unveil a new maritime policy designed to address challenges encountered by operators in the Marine and Blue Economy, with a particular focus on the port environment.

With this objective in mind, agencies falling under the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy have convened multiple meetings to refine the upcoming maritime policy.

The ministry and its affiliated agencies are engaging in discussions with various stakeholders in the sectors to tackle challenges and seek lasting solutions.

Revealing this development in Lagos, Pius Akutah, the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), stated that the comprehensive new policy is nearing completion.

During the inspection of certain port terminals in Lagos, the Shippers Council head clarified that numerous meetings have taken place at both the agency level and with stakeholders.

He remarked, "Certainly, the immediate strategy involves examining internal measures to facilitate the restructuring of the sector through agency collaboration, aiming to address the ongoing challenges.

"However, the broader objective is to enhance the efficiency of the port system, recognizing that it cannot be achieved overnight. It is not a miraculous or mystical endeavor. Nevertheless, we are committed to our best efforts, ensuring that within the next four years, we fulfill Mr. President's mandate to propel the sector forward.

"The challenges are substantial, yet they are not insurmountable. We are actively working to overcome them, and the process has already commenced.
