You didn’t lead economic mgt team Ezekwesili knocks Atiku

Former Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili slammed Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar on Tuesday for claiming to be the head of the Economic Management Team while he was vice president.

"As head of the economic management team while I was Vice President, I was instrumental in designing a private sector revival strategy and advocated for the opening of the economy to private sector investments in several sectors," Atiku tweeted on Monday. And we made great strides."

Ezekwesili responded to the tweet by accusing Atiku of telling a "absurd lie," adding that the former vice president was never the Head of the Economic Management Team.

"Dear former Vice President Atiku, please ask the handlers of your Twitter account to stop misleading the public," she tweeted. You were never the Executive Director of the Economic Management Team. This ridiculous lie serves you no purpose. Please request that your team put a stop to it. Best wishes for the New Year. I wish you well."

She went on to explain how the group worked at the time in a Twitter thread, stating that she was also a member of the team at the time.

"There is a difference between the Economic Management Team established for the first time ever by President Obasanjo in 2003 and the National Economic Council established by the 1999 Constitution as amended; Section 153(1) and Paragraphs 18 & 19 of Part I of the Third Schedule," Ezekwesili stated.

"The Presidential Economic Management Team (we called it "The Economic Team" for brevity) was a Technical Team of 12 people from various fields assembled by President Obasanjo to drive Nigeria's Economic Reform Agenda during his second term in office, 2003-2007."

"There is no genuine basis for conflating the work of the Presidential Economic Management Team, which I described in previous tweets, with the National Economic Council, which is provided for in the Constitution and is chaired by a Vice President," she added. The functions are not at all the same. None.”

Following her explanations, however, some tweeps disagreed with her argument.

Responding to critics, the former minister said, "If you despise knowledge, we'll find you in the company of those currently "teaching" @obyezeks who was one of the 12 Economic Management Team members about its mandate and leadership.

"It's early in the new year, so it's a good time to become teachable. Don't belittle knowledge."
