Unknown Gunmen Abduct Pastor, Wife, and Children in Delta State
Unidentified gunmen have reportedly abducted Anglican Church Pastor Rev. Agbadamashi Emmanuel and his family. The incident occurred along the East-West road by Evwreni junction on Friday as they were traveling from Ughelli to the Uwheru community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the State.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the Anglican Communion, Ughelli Diocese, Hon. Justice Iyasere, stated that the priest and his family were ambushed, taken into the bush, and their whereabouts remain unknown.
While the Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, could not confirm the incident, the kidnappers have not made any ransom demands as of now.
In a separate development, the Catholic Church in Benin, Edo State, has initiated a process that could lead to the beatification and canonization of the late teenager Vivian Ogu. Ogu was shot dead on November 15, 2009, for resisting attempts to rape her after a robbery.
The issuance of an edict signals the beginning of the canonization process, allowing petitions for or against her activities while alive. The Archbishop of Benin, Most Rev. Augustin Obiora Akubeze, mentioned that Pope Francis included Ogu among 25 people worldwide for the canonization process. He urged those with information to come forward, and manuscripts, diaries, and letters related to Ogu's life are also invited for scrutiny.
