UK introduces law to protect rights of workers at sea

It expects that the measure will allow thousands of seafarers who routinely visit UK seas to "enjoy better pay protections" by strengthening rights and prohibiting companies from using legal loopholes to pay poor salaries.
According to the legislation, people working on foreign services must be paid at least the UK national minimum wage, which is now £9.50 per hour for those over the age of 23.
"P&O Ferries shamelessly sacked nearly 800 staff last year without notice or consultation," the government stated.
"In response to this disgraceful behavior, the UK government has moved quickly to implement its nine-point plan," it continued.
