Trump video deposition in civil rape trial made public

A video of former President Donald Trump's sworn testimony in a rape and defamation case against him was made public on Friday.

The video, which was shown in court this week, shows Trump being questioned about his infamous comments in the "Access Hollywood" tape, which was leaked before the 2016 election.
During his deposition in October 2022, Trump claims that his comments that renowned individuals have permission to sexually assault women were "historically" true "over the last million years."

"I suppose that's mostly accurate. Not always, but most of the time. "Unfortunately or fortunately," Trump says in response to questions from his accuser's lawyer, E. Jean Carroll.

"And you consider yourself a star?" Roberta Kaplan, the attorney, inquires. "I think you can say that, yeah," Trump says in response.

The video also shows Trump mistake Carroll in an old shot for his ex-wife Marla Maples.

"It's very blurry," Trump admits as his lawyer points out his error.

Trump reiterates his assertion that he has no idea who Carroll is and says repeatedly, "she's not my type."

The press petitioned the judge presiding over the civil trial for the release of the footage, but the judge determined that it was up to the parties.

Carroll filed a lawsuit against Trump last year, claiming that he assaulted her in a New York department store in the mid-1990s.

She also alleges he defamed her when he accused her of lying after she made the allegation public in 2019.

Trump has consistently and vehemently rejected the allegations, and he has not been charged criminally as a result of them.

Carroll's lawsuit seeks unspecified monetary damages for psychological distress and other suffering, as well as a request that Trump repudiate his remarks.

Both sides' lawyers rested their cases on Thursday, and the nine-person jury is scheduled to reach a decision next week.

The case is one of numerous legal obstacles Trump has as he pursues re-election to the White House in next year's election.

He pled not guilty last month in a criminal prosecution involving a hush-money payment made to a porn star just before the 2016 election.

Trump is also being investigated for his efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss in Georgia, his alleged mismanagement of confidential information obtained from the White House, and his involvement in the January 6, 2021 storming of the US Capitol by his supporters.
