Traditional leader urges restraint regarding the incident involving Obasanjo
In response to Friday's incident in Iseyin involving former President Olusegun Obasanjo and several traditional rulers, Oba Olushola Alao, the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon in Oyo State's Surulere Local Government Area, issued a statement on Tuesday emphasizing the importance of maintaining decorum in discussions about the situation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that during the inauguration of the Iseyin Campus of LAUTECH, former President Obasanjo accused the attending traditional rulers of showing disrespect towards Governor Seyi Makinde.
Oba Olusola Alao, who also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, has stated that the matter concerning the incident is an internal affair of the State Council of Obas. He assured that the matter will be thoroughly examined during the next Council meeting.
In his statement, Oba Olusola Alao acknowledged the widespread reactions and concerns expressed by those who hold the traditional institution in high regard, both within and outside the Yoruba community.
He emphasized that the silence maintained by the traditional rulers since the incident occurred is not a sign of weakness but a thoughtful approach to address the situation. Oba Olusola Alao called for everyone to adhere to decorum in line with the cherished Omoluwabi values that the Yoruba culture upholds.
