The Lagos fiesta kicks off today

The Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of its year-end celebration, the Countdown 2024 Greater Lagos Fiesta, starting today, Friday. According to a statement released on Thursday, the fiesta will conclude on the morning of January 1.

During a press conference, the state Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, mentioned that over 25,000 participants are expected at the event. She also assured the public of robust security measures in place, with collaboration from various security agencies, including the Nigeria Police, DSS, civil defense, LASTMA, and Neighbourhood Watch, to ensure a secure environment for all attendees, especially children.

Announcing the launch of the event, the ministry stated on Thursday, "Lagos Countdown 2024 #GreaterLagosFiesta kicks off on Friday, December 29th. Join the three-day festivities across all Ibile zones, including Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Epe."

The statement highlighted that while entry to the fiesta venues is free, participants need to register for access to the SOL Beach venue for the grand finale.

Speaking about the significance of the fiesta, Benson-Awoyinka remarked, "The Lagos Countdown Greater Lagos Fiesta has consistently fulfilled its purpose of discovering and nurturing new talents, providing a platform for young entertainers to showcase their skills on larger stages. It also serves as a means to address youth restiveness that is often prevalent during the festive period."

The three-day event not only highlights cultural activities and supports emerging talents in the entertainment and creative industry but also has a positive economic impact on the state. The substantial sales of goods and services to the thousands of fun and entertainment enthusiasts attending the event contribute to the state's economy during its entire duration.
