Spotify launches new tools for audiobook authors, publishers

Spotify has launched Spotify for Authors, a new collection of tools intended toward authors and publishers that distribute audiobooks on the site.

The new service, like the company's other tools for artists and producers, offers audiobook creators precise information and data on the performance of their content.

Spotify for Authors would enable writers and publishers to track the consumption of their audiobooks and libraries, providing a better insight of their target audience. In addition to audiobook listening habits, the platform will provide information on the types of podcasts that their users prefer.

This unique tool will assist writers in better targeting promotional efforts by identifying which podcasts may be the ideal fit for book promotions or advertising.

The new platform also provides writers and publishers with marketing tools, such as the option to share royalty-free copies of their works using redemption codes (with publisher approval) and distribute promotional assets via social media-friendly promo cards.

Furthermore, authors may now establish personalized Spotify profiles, allowing fans to learn more about their favorite writers in the same way that they do about their favorite musicians.

Spotify intends to improve Spotify for Authors in the coming year with additional tools and insights. One important planned feature is the "follow-along experience," which is currently being tested and will include synchronized visuals such as artwork, pictures, and graphics alongside the audiobook's narration. This feature seeks to provide an immersive listening experience that brings literature to life in novel ways.

The move is part of Spotify's continuous efforts to extend its audiobook offerings. This year, the firm expanded its audiobook offerings to Premium users beyond the United States and added video material.

As competition in the audiobook sector heats up, notably with Amazon's Audible, Spotify continues to innovate to entice audiobook listeners. In response, Audible just added one free audiobook to its most popular music-streaming membership package.
