Sowore Responds to Incident Where Angry Youths Set a Man on Fire in Kogi
Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate representing the African Action Congress (AAC), has expressed strong condemnation for the gruesome incident involving the lynching and burning of an unidentified man in Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State.
Reports indicate that a group of enraged youths in Lokoja took the law into their own hands and subjected the man to this horrifying act, allegedly accusing him of stealing someone else's manhood.
Taking to his verified social media account on Thursday, Sowore passionately called for an end to this barbaric behavior and urged both law enforcement agencies and the aware public to take immediate action.
Sowore pointed out that this inhumane trend resurfaced in Nigeria, with its origins traced back to Calabar approximately a month ago, and has now surfaced in Lokoja, Kogi State.
In his words: "This cruel practice reminiscent of the 1980s has resurfaced in Nigeria; it first emerged in Calabar about a month ago and has now extended its presence to Lokoja in Kogi State. The tactic involves accusing an individual of stealing another person's manhood, an implausible allegation, and subsequently subjecting the wrongly accused individual to violent punishment, often leading to death or burning alive. This savagery must cease without delay, and both security agencies and an informed public must promptly intervene."
