Sex workers file lawsuit against man for using fraudulent electronic payments

Oluwafemi Damilola faces charges in Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo town, Ondo State, as four women accuse him of defrauding them of N45,000.

According to the sex workers, the 25-year-old defendant engaged in sexual activities with them and then used a fraudulent electronic payment to compensate them for their services.

Following the incident, the defendant was apprehended by the state police command.

The complainants involved in the case are Glory David, Akere Bright, Valria Isaac, and Ngozi Okoro.

Damilola was presented before the court and charged with two counts related to fraud.

The police prosecutor, Mr. Akano Moremi, stated that the defendant committed the offense in October 2022 within the Sabo area of Ondo town.

According to the charge sheet, it states: "Oluwafemi Damilola, on a date in October 2022, at Sabo Road, Ondo, within the Ondo Magisterial District, engaged in fraudulent sexual activities with Glory David, Valria Isaac, Akere Bright, and Ngozi Okoro, thereby conducting oneself in a manner likely to disturb the peace."

The revised statement: "Oluwafemi Damilola, on the specified date, time, and location within the mentioned magisterial district, indecently assaulted Glory David, Valria Isaac, Akere Bright, and Ngozi Okoro. He fraudulently and unlawfully engaged in sexual intercourse with them under false pretenses of sending them the sum of N45,000, which he failed to do. Instead, he willingly sent them a fake alert with the intention of sexually defrauding them. These actions contravene Sections 249 and 360 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1 law of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006, and are punishable offenses."

The prosecutor informed the court about the intention to summon five witnesses to testify in the case and requested time to review the case file.

However, the defendant's counsel, Mr. S. A. Iluyemi, mentioned ongoing settlement negotiations between the parties. He requested the release of the defendant into his custody and assured the court that the defendant would provide compensation to the complainants before the next adjourned date.

Chief Magistrate Mrs. Charity Adeyanju approved the request made by the defendant's counsel and directed that the funds be paid to the complainants prior to the next scheduled adjournment.
