Scavenger bags 21 months imprisonment for stealing Mp3 speaker

Thursday, an Abuja court sentenced Sulieman Abubakar, a scavenger, to 21 months in prison for stealing an MP3 speaker worth N5,000.

Abubakar, 28, was charged with criminal trespass, housebreaking, and theft.

Saminu Suleiman, the Area Court judge, gave the defendant the option of paying a N30,000 fine.

The defendant had previously pleaded guilty to the charge and pleaded for leniency.

The prosecutor, Olanipekun Babajide, informed the court that the complainant, Abdulrahman Myheiminu of Dawaki, Abuja, reported the incident to the Zuba police station on February 5.

Babajide stated that the convict unlawfully entered the complainant's residence and shattered a window worth N80,000.

During the course of the police investigation, the convict reportedly admitted guilt in a confessional statement.

Babajide informed the judge that the convicted individual was not a first-time offender.

He stated that the offence violated sections 348, 346, and 288 of the Penal Code.
