Unidentified Middle-Aged Woman Rescued by NSCDC from Osun River Suicide Attempt

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osogbo successfully rescued a middle-aged woman in an incident reported on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. The Commandant of Osun NSCDC, Sunday Agboola, shared in a statement by spokesperson Adeleke Kehinde, that the Search and Rescue Team promptly responded to a distress call. The officers arrived within ten minutes, rescuing and providing immediate medical attention to the victim before transporting her to the hospital.

Woman Rescued from Suicide Attempt Reveals Motive

Following successful first aid treatment administered by the NSCDC team, the rescued woman disclosed her intention to jump into Gbodofon River from Osogbo, having traveled from Iragbiji. She explained her desperate act as an attempt to quench the "fire" burning within her body. Commandant Sunday Agboola emphasized the NSCDC's dedication to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to prioritize their mental health. He assured heightened attention to river security in the state to prevent future incidents. Agboola praised the Search and Rescue Team, led by DSC Ishola Oluyinka, for their swift and effective response, leveraging their disaster management training.
