Possible Foul Play Suspected in Reported Suicide of Nigerian Army Captain in Akwa Ibom
A Nigerian Army Captain by the name of Alphonsus Alexander Kalthy Bazza has reportedly taken his own life in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State.
As per a relative of the deceased, Captain Bazza's lifeless body was discovered hanging from a tree in a bush on Saturday night.
The family source, speaking to SaharaReporters, characterized his death as 'mysterious and suspicious.' The cause of death remains unconfirmed, as Captain Bazza left no suicide note for his wife, elder sister, or any other family member.
The source expressed disbelief, questioning why a Captain in the army would hang himself with a mosquito net that he used for sleeping. According to the source, Captain Bazza had no apparent reason to take his own life, and there were no indications of any wrongdoing on his part. The source mentioned a prior loss Captain Bazza experienced when his tent mate died under mysterious circumstances in Yobe.
Captain Bazza, who got married in 2017 and had one child, a son, had his death reported to the Nigerian Army headquarters, which has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of his demise.
The family source concluded by stating, "We lost this young man (my brother-in-law), Captain Alphonsus Alexander Kalthy Bazza, last night. He committed suicide in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. But the army headquarters is investigating the real cause of his death. They claimed his body was found hanging in the bush. No note was given to either his wife or any member of his family; the family is not aware that he left any note behind."
