Police place N5m bounty on suspect over alleged defamation

The Edo State Police Command has offered a N5 million reward for information leading to the arrest of one Rachael Eboni Osazee Iyonmana, who is currently residing in Canada, for alleged defamation, cyberbullying, stalking, and impersonation.

SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the command's spokesperson, told journalists on Monday that the suspect was declared wanted in the Special Police Gazette Bulletin in January.

"On January 11, the Commissioner of Police received a petition from Festus Alenkhe, Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists, Edo State Council, over an alleged offence of cyberbullying/stalking against one Rachael Eboni Osazee Iyonmana," he said.

"During the course of the investigation, the police issued a wanted poster in the Special Police Gazette Bulletin," he added.

The command, he said, sent a letter to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Force CID Annex, Alagbon Close, Ikoyi, Lagos State.

He stated that while the police were on her trail to apprehend her, intelligence revealed that the suspect was in Canada.

Nwabuzor stated that while the investigation was ongoing, the suspect created multiple Facebook accounts and used the petitioner's photos and full name to chat with unsuspecting members of the public.

"On February 13, the suspect, who is based in Canada, went out of her way to create different Facebook accounts using the complainant's picture and continuing to transmit messages as if the complainant is the one transmitting them," he added.

"We want to make the public aware that the suspect's Facebook accounts are not the work of the complainant." The suspect did this to give the impression that Festus is the perpetrator."

"According to our findings, Rachael lives in Canada." As a result, anyone with information about her presence in Nigeria should notify the police, and the information will be investigated by the office of the commissioner of police, PPRO, anti-kidnapping and cyber crime unit, and the informant will be rewarded with N5 million."

He stated that the Nigerian police are collaborating with the Nigerian Immigration Service in order to apprehend the suspect whenever she visits the country.
