Plan your future during service year, NYSC DG advises corps members

Brig Gen Y. D Ahmed, Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, advised NYSC members on Monday to use their service year to reflect on their life and plan for the future.

The Director General delivered the advise while speaking to members of the 2024 Batch C, Stream 2, at an orientation course in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area, Kwara State.

The DG, who was on his routine camp trip in Kwara State, advised corps members not to waste their service year on frivolous activities, advising them to "settle down and plan their life."

"You are all young, with a long road ahead of you. The country requires you to take the time to completely think on your life so that you can live a better life and even plan for the future.

"Now is the ideal moment for you to contemplate and plan your future. This is a fantastic time for you to plan because you are currently serving the nation and have the opportunity to plan and project into the future. Make the most of your service year by planning to live a better life and contribute to the betterment of Nigeria.

He urged them to avoid frivolities and focus on life, saying they are full of promise.

"NYSC scheme is now providing the needed platform for you to explore the potentials," Ahmed informed you.

Ahmed advised the corps members to avoid unapproved excursions and not to travel at night.

"Night journeys usually expose you (corps members) to hazard and danger, even if it is necessary for you to travel, you should not travel at night," he told them.

He also advised corps members to take advantage of the NYSC Skills Acquisition Programme (SAED) and learn at least two skills while on national service.

"NYSC is in collaborations with various governmental and non-governmental organisations that will assist corps members in accessing needed funds to start up your businesses," he informed us.

He also cautioned the corps members to remain security alert throughout the service year and wished them a smooth orientation process.
