Ogun State has decided to cancel its Independence Day festivities
The Ogun State government announced on Tuesday that it has opted to cancel the commemoration of the 63rd Independence Day, originally slated for Sunday, October 1st. This decision, as conveyed in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, aligns with the federal government's directive for a subdued celebration this year.
The Federal Government's choice for a low-key celebration, as articulated in the statement, is intended to mirror the prevailing national sentiment. The government encourages the state's residents to utilize this time for solemn prayers on behalf of the country.
In a section of the statement, it is stated, "In line with the Federal Government's directive for a low-key Independence Day Celebration this year, the Ogun State Government has canceled all preparations related to the anniversary on October 1st, 2023."
"The federal government's choice is a reflection of the prevailing national sentiment. The state government encourages citizens of the state to dedicate this time to earnestly praying for the well-being of the nation.
Under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun, the government holds a firm belief that the collective prayers of the people during this critical period will find favor with the divine.
We humbly request the understanding and cooperation of everyone as we mark this year's Independence Day with a subdued spirit, firmly believing that brighter days await us as a united people."
