Nigerian Ambassador Rejects Media's False Statements on 2023 Presidential Election

Ambassador John Usanga, the Nigerian Ambassador to Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde, has strongly denied the comments attributed to him in the media concerning the 2023 presidential election, branding them as fake news. This assertion is detailed in a statement issued and signed by Usanga himself, which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday.

According to Usanga, the comments in question were attributed to a group named the Board of Trustees of the National Executive Committee Members of the Rivers State and the Rivers State Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Coalition.

In the statement attributed to Usanga, he was quoted as saying, "The annulment of the 2023 presidential election on the basis of the less than 25 per cent votes scored by Bola Tinubu is a wake-up call for vigilance and for us to state the fact as it is before the truth is distorted."

Usanga vehemently refuted these comments as fabricated lies, emphasizing that his only statement regarding the presidential election was a congratulatory message to President Bola Tinubu for his victory, a message that is already in the public domain.

He urged the public to disregard the false information circulated on platforms like YouTube and other news channels, stressing that it is "fake and totally false." He also called upon relevant security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible for spreading this misinformation.

Furthermore, Usanga revealed that he is taking legal measures to address the alleged defamation of his character stemming from these false claims.
