Nigeria Police Force Flooded with 288,266 Applications in Just Nine Days of Recruitment Portal Openi

A total of 288,266 Nigerian youths have successfully submitted their online applications for the constable cadre of the Nigeria Police Force, as revealed by the Police Service Commission (PSC). This milestone occurred precisely nine days after the recruitment portal opened on Sunday, October 15, 2023, and is scheduled to close on November 26, 2023. The duration aligns with the Federal Character Commission's requirement of a six-week application period for eligible candidates seeking government agency vacancies.


The PSC, in a statement on Tuesday, reported that the recruitment portal www.apply.police recruitment.gov.ng received 288,266 applications by 7 pm on Monday, October 23, 2023. According to Ikechukwu Ani, the spokesperson for the PSC, 217,105 applications met the basic requirements for further consideration in subsequent recruitment stages.


Breaking down the numbers, Ani explained that out of the total applicants, 217,300 Nigerian youths applied for the General Duty post, while 70,676 applied for specialist posts. Notably, 69,426 applications were rejected for failing to meet requirements, and 46,868 were denied due to overage. Specifically, 51,213 General duty applications and 18,213 Specialist applications were rejected.


Ani highlighted the online application requirements, including Nigerian origin, possession of the National Identification Number (NIN), a minimum of 5 credits in relevant subjects, age between 18-25 years, and a valid email address. He emphasized that the application process incurs no monetary implications, advising applicants to take note.


The Chairman of the Commission, retired Inspector General of Police, Dr. Solomon Arase, commended Nigerian youths for their keen interest in pursuing a career in the Nigeria Police Force. He assured that the ongoing recruitment exercise would prioritize transparency and merit, urging youths to continue visiting the recruitment portal for consideration.
