Niger road crash: 17 dead, 208 injured - FRSC

A lone crash at Takalafia village on the Yawuri Expressway in Niger State claimed the lives of 17 people and left 208 others injured, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). 

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, involving 229 individuals, including 220 male adults, four female adults, and five male children. Of the total, 206 male adults, one female adult, and one male child were rescued with varying injuries, while 17 male adults lost their lives in the crash. 

The spokesperson for the FRSC, Bisi Kazeem, revealed that the crash, involving a red commercial DAF trailer with the plate number SRZ446XA driven by Idi Doba, resulted from a speed violation leading to a loss of control.

Injured individuals were swiftly transported to Kantagora General Hospital for urgent medical care, and the deceased victims were placed in the hospital's mortuary, as per the statement. The FRSC Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, reiterated his caution to trailer and haulage vehicle drivers, urging them to refrain from transporting passengers in their vehicles due to the inherent dangers to both passengers and other road users.
