National Assembly resumes plenary Tuesday

The National Assembly has announced that plenary will resume on Tuesday as scheduled, despite the Independent National Electoral Commission's compilation of the 2023 election results.

The Senate adjourned plenary for elections on Wednesday, January 25.

The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, announced that the Senate would go on recess to allow lawmakers to fully participate in political party campaigns, returning on Tuesday, February 28.

The Presidential and National Assembly elections were held on Saturday, but the electoral umpire was still busy collating results as of Monday evening.

Despite rising tensions across the country, the National Assembly informed its members and other stakeholders in a memo signed by the Clerk of the House of Representatives, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, and received by our correspondent that it would reconvene for legislative duties as previously scheduled.

"This is to remind all Hon members, media, and the general public that the House will still reconvene plenary tomorrow, Tuesday, 28th February 2023 at 11 am as previously announced," the notice says.

In addition, a senator who spoke to our correspondent off the record because he was not authorized to speak to the press on such matters said they would resume plenary because they had not received any contradictory notice to the previous agreement.

"We haven't received any contradictory messages," the senator said, "so we will resume tomorrow as agreed on the day we adjourned plenary."
