NSCDC arrests two suspected kidnappers in Ekiti

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps apprehended two suspected criminals accused of kidnapping, raping, and duping innocent Ado Ekiti residents.

According to NSCDC State Commandant John Fayemi, the corps also rescued four people aged 23 to 25 who were allegedly held hostage by the suspects.

The four victims, who were apprehended in the same hideout where the two suspects were apprehended, are receiving medical attention.

According to Tolu Afolabi, the Corps Public Relations Officer, Fayemi said, "They and others at large conspired and kidnapped the victims along Omisanjana area in Ado Ekiti after a brawl."

Oluwafemi, according to Fayemi, had been threatening the victims over an alleged failed business.

"The suspects have confessed to being members of the Eye Confraternity troubling Omisanjana and Matthew Street in Ado Ekiti where they launched several attacks on innocent people, kidnapping, raping, and duping them before the long hand of the Command's Counter Terrorism Unit caught them in the act," he said.

"Before the arrest, the unit had been inundated with complaints from the areas that some groups of cultists were operating daily around there, which called for an immediate investigation by the CTU to curtail the activities of the cultist groups".

"During the operations, which lasted about 20 minutes, the kidnappers exchanged gunfire with the CTU operative," the NSCDC chief explained. "During the process, two (innocent) people were shot and are currently being treated at a government hospital," he said.

Fayemi, who stated that the suspects would be taken to court for prosecution once the investigations were completed, expressed concern about the rate of peace violations in Ado Ekiti.

"Culturism in the state capital is taking on new dimensions," he said. The Command will not fold its arms and allow this to devolve into a chaotic situation".
