Meter upgrades remain possible after deadline – DisCo
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company has announced that customers can still upgrade their meters after the November 24 deadline. In a statement, the DisCo stated that customers who have not upgraded their meters will be unable to vend, but the upgrade procedure is still ongoing.
"Can I still upgrade my meter now that the Token Identifier rollover deadline has passed?" Yes! You can still upgrade your meter to STS 2," Eko DisCo explained.
To upgrade their meters, the power distributor encouraged customers to visit its website and get two sets of 20-digit KCTs (Key Change Tokens) that should be loaded in sequence.
"Take notice that this upgrade is required. You won't be able to sell or load your tokens until your meter is improved. "This upgrade is free," the statement read.
According to reports on Monday, unless a last-minute intervention is made, about three million electricity users may face estimated billing or possibly complete power outages as a result of their inability to upgrade their prepaid meters.
By Sunday, when the deadline had passed, several customers had complained about being unable to update their meters. Some users experienced technical challenges throughout the update process, while others reported power disruptions.
Many people also received notices that their meters were antiquated and could not be upgraded.
Customers with non-upgradeable meters were told that if they couldn't wait for their DisCos to give them with new meters, they would risk power interruptions or have to rely on anticipated billing.
If the wait for a free gadget from their utility company is too long, some people may decide to purchase new meters.
