Lagos to implement e-call-up system for Lekki-Epe corridor Sept 23

The Lagos State Government has confirmed that the electronic call-up system will be implemented along the Lekki-Epe corridor beginning September 23, 2024.

This announcement follows the postponement of the system's initial rollout, which was originally scheduled for August 1, 2024.

The revised implementation date was officially communicated in a statement issued by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation and shared on Sunday via its official X account.

"In a significant move to avert severe congestion by articulated trucks and improve the efficiency of logistics operations within the Lekki-Epe Free Trade Zone corridor, the Lagos State Government has announced the commencement of the e-call up system for managing truck movements within the axis from 23rd September 2024," according to a statement.

According to the statement, the e-call-up system, a digital platform designed to manage truck entry and exit, is intended to alleviate frequent traffic congestion caused by haphazard parking and disorganised truck movements along the Lekki-Epe corridor.

This need is highlighted by the recent start of fuel distribution at the Dangote Refinery, located in the Lagos Free Trade Zone, on September 15, which is expected to significantly increase truck traffic.

With major industrial hubs like the Lekki Free Trade Zone and the Lekki Deep Sea Port located along the corridor, ensuring the efficient movement of goods is critical to Lagos' economic viability.

The e-call-up system is expected to play a critical role in streamlining logistics operations, reducing congestion, and promoting sustainable development in the region.

Trucks at the Dangote Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, have begun lifting Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol.

On Sunday, the Dangote Group's X account posted a video revealing this.
