LP displaces PDP in Abia central elections
The Labour Party won all National Assembly elections in Abia Central, including the senatorial candidate, Darlington Nwokocha, as well as the House of Representatives candidates, Obi Aguocha (Ikwuano/Umuahia) and Ginger Onwusibe (Isiala Ngwa North and South).
Former Peoples Democratic Party National Organising Secretary Rtd Col Austin Akobundu polled 41,477 votes, while incumbent Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Representative Sam Onuigbo polled 7,997.
For the House of Representatives in the zone, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, the Speaker of the House of Assembly of the PDP for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, was defeated by Aguocha of the LP, while Onwusibe of the LP defeated a former Chief of Staff and human rights lawyer, Pro. Anthony C. B. Agbazuere of the PDP.
With this result, LP has effectively nailed the PDP's coffin in Abia Central.
Hon. Darlington Nwokocha addressed the press Monday afternoon after the Returning Officer, Pro. Udo Herbert, declared him the winner of the Senatorial seat. He thanked God and the people for their overwhelming support.
"My victory demonstrates that God is God and the will of the people," he said.
