Igbo think tank set to foster ethnic unity
The Igbo global think tank, Nzuko Umunna, has emphasized the need to strengthen ties between Ndigbo and other Nigerian nationalities. It stated that this was one of the goals it aimed to accomplish by holding the second edition of "Handshake Across Nigeria" in Enugu on April 28, 2023.
Wednesday, the Executive Secretary of the Think Tank, Ngozi Odumuko, disclosed in a press release from the Media Committee that the 'Handshake Across Nigeria' project aimed to promote ethnic unity in the country.
He added that the organization would raise the "decibel of our strength in diversity, as our great heritage for desired unity and development."
"As a non-partisan body of committed optimists, history, and facts of our co-existence, the Ndigbo are deep friends of our brother nationalities and believe, in unison, that there is no love lost that cannot be renewed, rekindled, and even passed down from generation to generation.
"Nzuko Umunna is proud of this inspiration and remains humbled by the endorsements of all stakeholders, as we look forward to another momentous occasion hosted by the South-East state governments."
Prof. Chika Moore, the group's president, was quoted in the statement as saying that understanding the core of inclusion, justice, and fairness, as expressed in a worthy handshake, activated the respect that "love is above hate when friendship is grown intentionally."
"The pillars of trust must replace the columns of suspicion in order for national cohesion to be firmly rooted in our hearts of liberty, freedom, and security," he declared.
It is anticipated that the project's theme, "Building Bridges for a New Nigeria," will rouse the conscience of Nigerian citizens to celebrate their ties more and signal happiness.
"The Handshake Across Nigeria 2" will feature the public presentation of the book 'Nzuko Umunna Chronicles,' the transition and investiture of a new Executive Council led by the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, and the former Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, according to the report.
In addition, there will be a special celebration of leaders from other regions as Enyi Ndigbo (friends of Ndigbo).
