Huawei pledges support for Nigeria’s digital transformation programs

Huawei Technologies has pledged to advance Nigeria's 3MTT program and the National Apprenticeship and Training Scheme as part of its support for the country's digital transformation efforts.

The company's DigiTruck initiative is intended to supplement these programs by increasing digital literacy and talent development throughout Nigeria.

According to Nairametrics, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the commitment during a visit to Huawei Technologies' Beijing Research Centre on Tuesday as part of his recent trip to China.

During the meeting, Mr. Liang Hua, Chairman of Huawei's Board of Directors, praised President Tinubu for recognising digital technology as a key driver of economic growth.

"This is very encouraging to us. Huawei is fully prepared to offer its ICT expertise and become a trusted partner of the Nigerian government in order to help the country achieve its policy goals and advance its digital, intelligent, and low-carbon development.

''The DigiTruck initiative will complement Nigeria's Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy in training 3 million technical talents (3MTT) and equipping the country's young population with the skills required for current and future economic opportunities,'' he stated.

DigiTruck is a mobile ICT classroom initiative that aims to improve digital literacy and offer ICT training in underserved Nigerian communities.

The DigiTruck, outfitted with cutting-edge technology such as computers, internet connectivity, and educational resources, will function as a mobile educational hub, reaching out to areas with limited access to technology and training.

The initiative aims to operate in ten Nigerian states each year, training at least 3,000 students.

Meanwhile, Mr Chris Lu, CEO of Huawei Nigeria, emphasised the company's support for Nigeria's National Talent Export Program (NATEP).

"In the future, we hope to continuously develop Network Operations Centre (NOC) and expand its capacity so that it can meet the requirements of more African markets, thus facilitating more Nigerian technology talents in serving more overseas' markets and helping to achieve the goal of NATEP," according to him.
