HoS seeks additional training slots for civil servants

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Folasade Yemi-Esan, has requested that the Management of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies reconsider the entry position policy, as well as the number of slots allocated to Federal Civil Servants for the Senior Executive Course.

In a statement signed by the Director of Communications, Mohammed Ahmed, on Wednesday, she said, "Only substantive Directors are eligible for admission, while the bar is being lowered for Public Servants, especially the Military and Paramilitary, with only seven annual slots offered for the service."

She also advocated for a comparative analysis of federal civil service positions and public service positions in an effort to rectify the anomaly, noting that the data is readily available.

The statement noted that the head of service made the call during a courtesy visit to Abuja by the Director General of NIPSS, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, and the institute's management staff.

Yemi-Esan, on the other hand, lauded NIPSS for retooling government personnel through the conduct of courses for mid- and senior-level officers in the understanding and application of modern policy formulation and strategic management skills to problem-solving in pursuit of national developmental objectives.

She noted that a partnership between the National Institute and the Office of the Head of the Federal Civil Service would result in a greater understanding of government policies and their efficacy in advancing the nation.

She acknowledged the quality of the institute's work, citing the fact that a significant number of the current crop of Transformative Federal Permanent Secretaries were NIPSS graduates over the past three years.

The director general of NIPSS, Ayo Omotayo, charged civil servants with ensuring that government policies are well articulated and carried out to the letter.

In addition, he assured that NIPSS will continue to develop mechanisms for ensuring the proper execution of government policies.
