Helicopter from the Air Force crashes in Niger State

The Air Force MI-171 Helicopter, en route from Kaduna State to Niger, crashed on Monday, August 14, 2023. The unfortunate incident occurred around 1 pm, precisely in a village within Niger's Shiroro Local Government Area. In an official statement, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, verified the occurrence of the crash.

The released statement provides details on the incident, stating, "Today, August 14, 2023, a Nigerian Air Force MI-171 Helicopter, engaged in a casualty evacuation mission, experienced a crash around 1:00 pm in Chukuba Village, Niger State.

"The helicopter had taken off from Zungeru Primary School and was en route to Kaduna. However, it was subsequently revealed that the aircraft had crashed near Chukuba Village within the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.

"Rescue operations are currently underway to assist the crew and passengers aboard the helicopter. Meanwhile, initial inquiries have commenced to ascertain the potential cause of the accident."
